Its NA Beer Day! – A reflection by Chris Riley | Oct 8, 2021 | Blog | 0 comments It’s official! Sober October is underway AND we have a new holiday to celebrate. The Non-Alcoholic (NA) Industry has a federally sanctioned day. Thanks to Big Drop Brewing, great friends of ours here at The NA Happy Hour, October 2nd is officially called “NA Beer Day”. This isn’t just another symbolic month in the year. This is a true day registered with the National Archives. I hope everyone was able to enjoy some fantastic brews to kick off their Sober October this year. The non-alcoholic industry has come a long way in the last few years growing at what seems like an incalculable way. Each week we see another brewery turning to the NA scene and more and more non-alcoholic breweries making a splash. We have seen titans of beer such as Coors, Bud, and Heineken create their own NA version of their respective beer. We have also seen several alcoholic breweries take a stab at non-alcoholic beers: Independent, Flying Dog, Bay Life and Three Notched. All of these great breweries have worked hard to create incredible craft beers (many of which I love and buy regularly), but have finally decided to get into the NA industry. Having an official national holiday further lends legitimacy to this movement we are all a part of. People are becoming more mindful with their drinking habits and are working to live better lives. In my life, I have been working on, and sometimes struggling, to be a more mindful drinker. There are still times I wake up with a hangover, and even get sick. Fortunately this hasn’t happened in a while but I am still human. When this happens I remember why I started this journey and what I am working towards. This is my “Why?” for all the work I have done thus far and why I continue to look forward to all of the incredible things going on here at The NA Happy Hour and beyond. I have seen the industry grow since I became a member about 18 months ago. I have listened to people’s stories and have been humbled by all the work we, the greater NA community, has done. I am looking forward to seeing where the industry takes us, and me specifically. Are you guys excited that we now have an NA Beer Day or could you care less? I’d like to start this conversation to allow for us to continue building the industry and understanding how we can keep growing into the mindful drinkers we all can be.
